Before we moved to Glocestershire I had a studio based in picturesque Sonning, conveniently close to Reading and Henley on Thames. It was fully equipped with a Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda chair and other small pieces of equipment. I offered 1:1 sessions or small group class where there are no more than 3 in a class. Until lockdown restrictions are lifted I am not able to offer this option but hope to open the studio in Newent, Glos in summer 2021.
Matworks classes are also offered at Woodley Baptist Church. These classes are again small, no more than 6 in the class. The benefit of doing a matwork class with Deborah at Pilates4me is that you will get lots of attention and Deborah will make sure you do it properly and ensure you do not do any exercise that is a contraindication to any conditions you may have. This is always difficult to achieve if you are in a bigger class.
After too many years working in the IT industry as a senior manager, I retrained to become a sports massage therapist with the London School of Sports Massage. One of my first jobs as a sports massage therapist was working at the Redgrave Clinic which was a multi disciplinary clinic headed by Dr Lady Ann Redgrave. I quickly realised that massage was part of the solution and trained to become a Pilates teacher with Alan Herdman, who is credited with bringing Pilates to the UK in 1971 following his training at the Pilates studio in New York. My training was for one year and required studying for 20 hours a week with Alan and his team of tutors which include a physiotherapist and senior and experienced Pilates teachers. We also received lectures from medical professionals to learn about pre and post pregnancy, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, hip and knee replacements as well as learning some Alexander Technique.
Before setting up the studio in 2009, I taught mat work to a variety of clients including working with the GB men's and girl's rowing development squad as well as the junior section at Henley Rowing Club.
I now teach clients from all walks of life and all ages. I believe my approach is unique as I can combine massage techniques with Pilates to meet my client's goals whether it is recovery from surgery or injury, improving posture, balance and flexibility. Given my background I have specialised in post rehabilitation which means I am experienced in helping people recover once they have been discharged from their doctor or physiotherapist following surgery or injury. In July 2019 I had a total hip replacement and applied my knowledge to rehabilitate myself. I was back in the saddle having a little ride on my daughter's horse 12 weeks following surgery!
I also teach specialized classes for pelvic floor disfunction. Please get in touch if you want more information about these classes.
